China is home to 16 of the world's 20 most polluted cities

Now the state environmental protection agency has posted a list of 30 companies which will be barred from receiving bank loans because of their poor pollution records.

The companies include steelmakers and drink-makers.

But critics say putting 30 companies on a blacklist will not stop pollution in China, and may not even dent the problem.

The Greenbox captures gases blamed for global warming.

Welsh engineer

has developed technology which can capture gas emissions from vehicles, to be used for conversion to biodiesel, ethanol and fertiliser.

The Greenbox can be fixed underneath a car in place of the exhaust to trap the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming - including carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide - and emit mostly water vapour.

Even though technology such as a 'greenbox' ultimately still support the dependence on fossil fuels, at least it is a start to decreasing harmful pollutants to ourselves and the rest of the planet.
