Unprecedented powers given to NSW police to deal with violent protesters and security threats during Sydney APEC summit come into effect from today.
They include the right to stop and search citizens inside restricted areas.
NSW Premier Morris Iemma said the powers were necessary, with APEC the most significant security challenge in the nation's history.
