Two More Earthquakes Hit Mount St. Helens

Mount St. HelensThe first quake, magnitude 3.6 and classified as minor, hit at 2:34 a.m. A second quake shook the mountain at 9:44 a.m., registering 3.5.


The shallow quakes were accompanied by rockfall from the lava dome.


According the U.S. Geological Survey, six temblors magnitude 3.1 or higher have been recorded since Tuesday. Visit the USGS Web site for more details.


A minor eruption has been under way at Mount St. Helens for nearly two years, with new rock pushing into the crater. Officials believe that there is little danger and allowed climbing to resume earlier this month.
