Medical Myths Even Doctors Believe
ScienceDaily (Dec. 21, 2007) — Indiana University School of Medicine researchers explored seven commonly held medical beliefs. selected seven medical beliefs, espoused by both physicians and members of the general public, for critical review. They then searched for evidence to support or refute each of these claims.
People only use 10 percent of their brains
Hair and fingernails continue to grow after we die
Eating turkey makes you sleepy
People should drink at least eight glasses of water a day
Shaving hair cause it to grow back faster or coarser
Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight
Until someone takes the time to question and look for evidence, medical myths will remain accepted beliefs.
