The oil minister stated that OPEC believed the market had sufficient supply to meet current and projected global demand through the summer.

And how about this little nugget: the Khaleej Times quoted the minister as saying, "The price of the oil barrel could go to $200...."

And what do we get back here? Proposals from McCain and Clinton, opposed by Obama, for a federal gasoline tax break for the summer months. Wow, that 18 cents will really go a long way toward helping consumers with rising gas prices. But my favorite was Chuck Schumer, the senior senator from New York, who proposed that the federal government give the bill for the gas tax break to the oil companies.

Hello? Chuck? Anybody home? Surely Senator Schumer knows that any additional bill / tax handed to the oil companies will be passed on to the consumers at the pump, negating any impact of a federal gas tax holiday. Right? Senator?

It's time our government addressed this problem for what it is: an issue of supply and demand.
