A lone gunman burst into a religious
seminary in Jerusalem and opened fire in the school library,
killing eight people before he was shot to death
The 15-member body failed to
agree on a U.S. statement that ``condemned in the strongest
terms'' the shootings, because of Libyan opposition
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement he is
``deeply concerned at the potential for continued acts of
violence and terrorism to undermine the political process.''
Israel's Channel Two said the gunman was a resident of east
Jerusalem, the sector of the city that the Palestinians seek as
the capital of their planned independent state.
Hamas gunmen celebrated the attack in the streets of Gaza
City by firing guns into the air.
More than 125 Palestinians were killed earlier this week in
an Israeli military operation in Gaza. The incursion was
prompted by the firing of Grad rockets by Hamas at Israel that
hit the southern seaside city of Ashkelon
