Slain chimp’s mom was shot in Festus in ’01
Suzy, the 28-year-old chimp shot to death near Festus. It lived with Connie Casey and her husband, Mike, who own Chimparty, a company that supplies young chimps for parties, commercials and other activities. Jason Coats, who lives nearby, shot the ape several times with a shotgun.
A chimpanzee that was shot and killed earlier this week for mauling a Connecticut woman was the offspring of a chimpanzee that made headlines eight years ago when a Festus teenager shot and killed her.
Family members, animal rights groups and former clients of Casey's told the Post-Dispatch that Travis was Suzy's son and that Herold bought him shortly after he was born. Casey did not return a reporter's phone calls.
Judie Harrison of Pennsylvania, a former client of the Caseys', said she received an e-mail from Mike Casey confirming her fear that Travis had met the same fate as his mother.

Chimps can live 50 to 60 years.
