Eight years ago Iraq was not a problem and the US still had some tall buildings.

Reading the day to day news we get a negative view of the future.

In every situation there are trade offs.  The best deal results when all parties perceive they are getting what they want.  Eisenhower’s choice in Korea was to either escalate using nuclear weapons going after Mao or draw a line at the 38th parallel.

So how does this work in the Middle East

The first intelligent thing for the next administration is to back away from Saudi.

Open the door with Iran

Trade the Shiite South of Iraq to Iran for a number of things

Give the Kurds a homeland – autonomy.

Offer those willing to move

Free education for their children, land they can own and even a bit of an income from oil revenues.
