The expanding table shown here is the result of many years of modern development, but also follows a line of history of more than one and a half centuries. This, the Fletcher Capstan Table, is the only table in the world with its unique properties.

As the entire top is rotated through 30 degrees of movement (which may be human powered or driven by electric motor), all of these leaves reposition themselves, simultaneously elevating and radially expanding outward. Before you know it the table has snapped tightly shut in an entirely different mode and appearance.
