Security Watch: Check Your E-Mail and Save Your Domain

Not for the first time lately, GoDaddy is under fire for canceling a user's domain under questionable circumstances. GoDaddy customers clearly need to be very careful.

In the most recent case, a customer with the domain FamilyAlbum.com, found the domain registered to another GoDaddy customer. GoDaddy informed the customer that they had received several complaints that the Whois information for the domain was incorrect. ICANN regulations require that domain owners keep correct information in their whois records.

GoDaddy contacted the customer by the e-mail address in the Whois record—not by the postal address or phone number in that same record—and the customer did not respond. GoDaddy cancelled the account, and the domain was subsequently purchased by another party.

Just a guess, but it's possible that the person who filed the complaint is the one who registered the domain after it was cancelled
