The historic Helmick’s Mill bridge, which carries traffic over Deerfield Township Road 269 across Island Run, creates a beautiful winter scene. The bridge recently underwent a major renovation which cost in excess of $400,000.

The renovation was financed through the Ohio Department of Transportation Historic Bridge funding, according to County Engineer Stevan Hook. The bridge, which was built in 1867, closed on February 11, 2008, and reopened to traffic on August 26, 2008.

Engineer Hook said the Adams Covered Bridge at San Toy will be the next to be renovated.
