Conjoined B.C. twins stable in first day: doctors

"We've had no problems looking after them in the first day of life because they are stable," said Dr. Brian Lupton, clinical director of B.C. Women's Hospital's neonatal unit.


Dr. Christian Macedonia of the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, Md., helped deliver conjoined twins two years before the birth of the B.C. babies.

'I will say, as a general rule, babies joined with fusions at the head, and particularly with fusions of portions of the brain, are some of the most challenging cases in separation that you will find.'

Macedonia said conjoined twins need a supportive community to thrive. The twins he delivered have now been separated and are reportedly doing fine.
